To be fair, the reason for that is because for everyone who grew up during that generation the NES was the only game in town.  Nintendo's "core" brand loyalty segment has been on the decline ever since the mid 90s, where people who grew up during that time have just as fond memories of SEGA and Sony, and many people fondly remember the first time they got an Xbox or a 360 as well.
