He means they don't make games like that.   You are forgetting that PS3 got equal 3rd party support, and Wii U is close to recieving none...

Yes, and Sony depended on platformers during the PS2 days. 

Nintendo can make whatever the heck it wants. Sure, they havn't done anything like those kinds of games yet (Excluding the Xeno series, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Majoras Mask/Twilight Princess) but neither did Sony. They focused on platformers, and when demand for shooters and aventure games came, they changed. If this gen proves to Nintendo that they need to change their philiosphy on what gamers demand, then they'll change. 

One can only hope.
