Depending only on first party will probably just get them out of the industry. It's just necessary to tale a look at GTA and CoD numbers and see that people want those games. The success comes with good first party + all third party games. It's a question of mouth-to-mouth. You see your friends talking about the new great 3rd party game and you will want to buy it. People will buy the console with a good 3rd party support first and will let the console without it for another oportunity. And with the money invested in games on the console bought, they will probably forgot about their second option.
Nintendo need to do again what they did with N64, except by the game media (please, they have to use a normal media. Blu-ray). It was powerfull for the time, cheap and still had some 3rd party support (and it would have it all if used CDs). Wii U should be more comparable in power to PS4/One and come with a normal controller, no tablet, no gimmick. It would support Wii Motes of course, but that would be an accessory. Sell it for US$ 400 or a little more with minimal losses (PS4 and One will sell at minimal losses for the price). That would get 3rd parties on it.
