I understand the argument, but not putting Half Life 3 on Windows means they could potentially pass on hundreds of millions of dollars. Maybe they'll skip consoles for a year, but not Windows. Not bringing HL3 to Windows would also piss off much of their fanbase. |
Making a console is a painful process.
What does that mean?
Take NAUGHTY DOG, for example.....Don't you think Naughty Dog would love to put some of their games on the PC for more to play? Maybe a phone or tablet? I'm sure that some of those gamers would absolutely love the chance.
But no, they can't. Because that's the whole point and incentive for those people to buy a PS3......it's a game of keep away-incentive....it's a painful game, but a necessary one.
If Valve is really serious about getting into the console game, then they too must be willing to go through this pain. If they aren't ready or willing to get dirty, then they might as well stay home.
HALF LIFE is a bonafide KILLER APP, and Valve must be willing to hurt the PC community with HALF LIFE 3 in order for their console aspirations to have a realistic chance for success. A necessary evil. I'm just curious if Valve actually has the balls to do what's needed and necessary to be done.
We'll see.
Winning requires pain.
