The worst thing to me is this hurts the whole argument that "Nintendo needs new IPs". People always ask things of Nintendo but never seem to support Nintendo when they do.

That is awesome and so true. I think a lot of it comes down to certain fan bases of other consoles just wanting or needing to justify not supporting them. Doesnt matter what Nintendo does, they will hate it simply because its Nintendo.

 Let's take Killzone for example. Can you imagine how much hate Nintendo would get for having 6 games from the same series in 9 years? There would be a meltdown.

oh please thats 6 games spread between, 5 different machines. thats nothing, Ratchent and Clank would have been a better argument and hell they did just that with Mario when he first came out.
