Hey folks, I have a question. My only request is that I forbid you from naming names. What are the attitudes that turn you off and on on a gaming community website?

What I would like to see here is a place where people can talk about things that hurt or bother them, or make them happy, in hopes that it can help people vent a little bit and lead those offending towards a better and healthier community.

Here is my list of things that bother me:

  • When someone thinks they are better than you, and rub it in your face.
  • When someone thinks that being in a community is all about the law and respecting rules, and catching people and being the police.
  • When someone thinks that their topic category of choice is the only topic that is worthy of discussion (e.g. talking about game content instead of marketting and sales).
  • When someone judges you for opening up about topics that are taboo.
  • When someone judges you for not adhering to their very different philosophy on something.
  • When someone thinks they are better than you because they are fans of this company, or because they are not die-hard fans of that company, but you are.
  • When someone feels like they are more important than somebody else for x, y, z reason.
  • And so much more.
The things that make me happy:
  • When someone is interested in my opinon.
  • When someone though different sees what is common between us.
  • When someone listens to you and weighs what you say, even though they might disagree.
  • When someone is neutral and thoughtful in their posts.
  • When someone is interested in a topic when posting.
  • When someone is excited to be in a thread and helps make a thread exciting.
  • And so much more.
What about you?
