So, I am seeing a number things that can likely happen here due to SteamOS and Steam Machines:
* Linux gets much improved driver support.
* Linux gets a bunch more games, and other software. Valve is likely going to push, big time, that guys making PC games also do ports for SteamOS. With this also, the PC market was likely also to pick up more games done for the ONE and PS4. So, I see Valve will get the games companies are working on, also for SteamOS and the Steam Machines.
* Linux gets in the living room in a bigger way.
* Android gets a competitor in the microconsole arena with SteamOS.

This is a potential game changer here. What it is not is Valve releasing their own console, so the whole Steambox thing falls to the wayside.
