Where the Sidewalk Ends was one of my favorite books when I was a kid! I read it all the time.

(sarcastic) I am, of course, the prime example of the promotion of  "drug use, the occult, suicide, death, violence, disrespect for truth, disrespect for authority, and rebellion against parents" that reading children's books has caused.

If children were actually displaying these characteristics, it is certainly not due to poems they read in children's books. If these things are happening, you can't blame them on books, because just the fact that they are happening suggests that there is a bigger problem.

The truth is that it is a matter of misplaced blame. Here's how it happens: the children are disobedient and violent, and so the parents, unwilling to accept blame, place the blame on the school, when the reality of the situation is that the answer is bad parenting.
