No. It should have been more powerful and without the gamepad.

Nothing wrong with the wiimote & pro controller being the pack-ins.

dumping the gamepad would only make the console slightly more powerful.

I am sure if WiiU was $350 with the Gamepad they could have made something similar in power to the XBone for $350, especially since PS4 is retailing for $400.

I just feel that the gamepad is a total waste of time and resources. So even without pumping up the specs and just dumping the gamepad they probably could have launched at $300 or less. Would have made a world of difference if you ask me.

wii u was always 299. the 349 model was due to the bundled game. substituting the gamepad for a pro controler or wii mote + nunchuck would barely give them an extra 40-50 bucks to invest on hardware. I also don't understand why are people complaining about wii u hardware when wii u is as powerfull as any console needs to be. it's a good leap above ps360 and not much distant from ps4/xone.

Except Iwata indirectly stated the gamepad added 100 dollars to the cost of the Wii U.

70-80 would be more believable. now subtract the costs for a pro controller/ wii mote + nunchuck and what do you get? an extra 40-50 bucks. magic, isn't it?

"those hardware systems would go up in price by easily a hundred dollars or more."

Extra font size is from the site, bold was me XD.

You honestly think the Wiimote and nunchuck cost more than 10 dollars for nintendo to manufacture?  Same goes for the pro controller, extra 20 bucks for the both of them.  At worst NIntendo would have 80 dollars more, which is a lot to invest in a cpu and gpu.
