Your absolutely right.  I think this comes back to budget management.  They can make some kind of Megaman game and keep it in a well thought out budget and make money.  But we both know monkeys run Capcom.  Hopefully we'll see some changes from them when they start bleeding money, unlike a certain other Japanese game company who thinks doing more of the same is a big change.

Yeah, definitely. It's all AAA(AAAAAAAAAAAA) or iOS now. And for the most part the Japanese just can't really compete when it comes to AAA. The big thing they should all look at, but especially Capcom, is how Ubisoft has diversified its portfolio. I think the downloadable "mini-AAA" model for Blood Dragon/Gunslinger/Child of Light would be perfect for them. It would let them experiment and make some of the sorts of crazy, inventive games that put them on the map to begin with, and do so relatively inexpensively (assuming Capcom has any talent left to do this kind of thing).

Otherwise the only hope seems to be younger companies like Marvelous and Gungho.

The expansion model from PC would do good for any developer.  I'm sure it'd be cheaper to make a more substansive game by reskinning an old one and charge 30-40 dollars would make more money than a map for 5.  Something like that aforementioned Blood Dragon.  Hell even that Infamous Halloween game was pretty slick.
