Who says you have to lay down $1,000 day 1?
PC's are upgradeable, you can buy a moderatly fast system for a fraction of that and over time upgrade it.
Upgrading a PC isn't difficult either, even a monkey can do it:

If you want PS4 level graphics, you are probably looking at $1,000 machine day 1. Then each upgrade to keep it at that level is going to cost another few hundred $.

Speaking at someone who owns a high end PC, I see the economics as being highly favoured towards the PS4. I just happen to have enough money to get both
