It's more that I think they realize they have a good advantage over MS in the more important Western markets with a $100 price advantage.

But it's not an advantage if you have no systems to sell, so they need to keep inventory open for the US/Euro markets.

The Wii didn't stop the PS3 from selling in Japan anyway, the Wii U looks to be far less popular, so I guess really, why should they be in any rush? The Nintendo and Sony audiences are pretty different anyway in Japan.

The XB1 is a bigger threat simply put. MS aims at the same exact audience that Sony is going for, Nintendo tends to shy away from the audiences that make up Sony's bread and butter (male gamers aged 13-30 who like blockbuster action games, sports sims, FPS games, Final Fantasy, etc.).

It's not really disrespect, the fact is MS is simply a more direct competitior to Sony especially in the console business, there's really no doubt about it.

In my opinion that´s just consolewar-fanfiction. Sony never said anything of this so it is in fact just pure speculation. Their official excuse is, that their games aren´t ready.

So it´s more reasonable to look at the current situation in Japan, their actions and their plans for the rest of the year.

Facts are

- PSP has been their bread and butter in Japan this gen

-PS4 is releasing this year worldwide even in very poor Asian countries.

-Japanese gamers love handhelds

-PSV is selling less than 10k

-PSV is cheaper but still selling less than the 7 year old PS3 in the handheld loving Japan

hardware plans for the rest of the year

- PSV2000 (no western release in 2013)

- PSV TV for 10k yen (no western release in 2013)

- no PS4

Now two questions

1. Would a PS4 release in Japan in November 13 or December 13 helped their handheld market. Yes or no?

2. Would Sony have made the same decision if WiiU had great sales?
