What was a mistake with a handheld is the proper policy with a home console. Home consoles are a margin in Japan nowadays, that's why PS4 got delayed so much in Japan and why it really doesn't matter. Look at their charts, Vita sells better than PS3 on a constant basis there! They are handheld oriented. Home consoles are for the West and Sony is doint the right thing by making its launch titles western-oriented.

The reason for the delay in my opinion:

"This is really just an excuse . PS4 will be even released in other Asian countries this year.

The real reason in my opinion is that Sony is desperately trying to revitalize PSV in Japan, and therefore placing their bets on PSV2000, PSV TV, this holiday season and FFX/X-2 which releases 19th Dec.."

PS4 can wait because Sony shares the "WiiU won´t be a threat in Japan" mentality/arrogance.

I don't think so.  Sony has shown through their marketing and game development that the PS4 is a far higher priority than the Vita.  I think it's just a matter of where they want to launch first and put more units.  The US and Europe are bigger markets, and particularly with MS being strong in the US, they need the units there.  I'm sure Sony isn't happy about not being able to launch in Japan, but you can only stretch youself so thin.  Businesswise, it's the correct decision, although it's a bit of a slap in the face to their home country.
