The 2014 delay will really bite Sony in the a.. in Japan. Releasing a new console in February isn´t exactly a brilliant idea. The excuse has been, that games would not be ready but it´s launch lineup is still looking pretty lackluster.

Nintendo will have a decent holiday season this year in Japan.

Sony knows the console business is Japan is small potatoes these days. Better to push as much stock to the more important US/Euro markets and try to take as much advantage of that lower PS4 price over the XB1 as possible.

The Wii/Playstation audiences in Japan are pretty different anyway ... the Wii appeals to families, kids, and Nintendo fans, the Playstation is more aimed at teenagers/college kids/otaku nerds and neither is really going to stop the other from having their fans eventually buy the consoles. The battle between the XBox 1/PS4 in the West will be far more intense.

I think Sony made the right call.

This is really just an excuse . PS4 will be even released in other Asian countries this year.

The real reason in my opinion is that Sony is desperately trying to revitalize PSV in Japan, and therefore placing their bets on PSV2000, PSV TV, this holiday season and FFX/X-2 which releases 19th Dec..
