Also, where did MC get the eShop sales (and I was entirely correct with my previous post that got some angry responses)? 

I think they can get the Download Card number the same way they get the retail copies, and I reckon the eShop number can only be known from Nintendo.

But, it would appear that there were around ~250k digital sales, which would be more than you said.
