They pulled a Fire Emblem. It was very tough trying to get Fire Emblem on the 3DS back when it came out in most of USA. I eventually tracked it down by having a guy from Gamestop call other locations. The location had one copy. This made a lot of people give up and buy the digital version. So Nintendo can semi take the risk of not shipping too many physical copies in a game they are unsure of being a success or try and lure people to the eshop. Ask Smeags... He bought Fire Emblem digitial because he probably couldn't track down a physical copy. Hell, I think new copies on Amazon a little after launch went above retail price due to higher demand than actual copies available.
