He's also the reason why those situations existed in the first place. He's also the reason why Squaresoft means anything in the first place. If it were not for his tyranny (read iron fist rather), the market would be japan-only and irrelevant in the west, and would matter to the west as much as anime does, e.g. very little.
A legend he is indeed. Don't let your hatred for Nintendo blind you from historical industry realities. He basically revived the market in the west (thanks to his son in law as well), and led Nintendo from a card company to being the greatest-selling publisher worldwide.
