Both! I loved the old 2D action platformers but love even more the Metroidvania like games. In fact it's one of my favourite series thanks to the music!

My BIGGEST problem in Lords of Shadows was the music.  Honestly, if they included classic Castlevania music and more recognizable enemies (really?  You couldn't include a couple of mermen, bone pillars, or medusa heads?) I think people wouldn't have had as big of a problem with it being an "alternate universe Castlevania reboot."

The Metroidvania's were getting pretty bad, though, I was tired of playing the same game and never playing as a Belmont.  Order of Ecclestia was a step in the right direction though, they changed a lot up and it felt fresh.  (For the record, I bought all the Metroidvanias AND I bought Lords of Shadows, and liked it,  but I didn't get the 3DS game.  Too many mediocre reviews.)

Yep that is the main reason why I didn't buy the game yet. For me the music in a Castlevania game is really important! I will probably never get into the lord of shadow series, even though it is absurdly cheap the first game I know i won't like it...

I still loved the Metroidvania's even though they never changed too much. I just loved to explore those games and beat them to 100% completition while listening to the awesome soundtrack. I really hope Castlevania makes a comeback in the next years, I really love the franchise . I played through all the games in the series and beat them... I guess I'll have to stick with the classics.
