Obviously the MH-Fans has no brand loyalty to a handheld manufacturer. They bought the 3DS now as they once bought the PSP. A Vita version would not generate much more sales in addition, and would probably have a hard time to yield the port costs.
It was probably even easier for them to buy the 3DS now than the PSP back then, because the 3DS is obviously THE gaming device in Japan that gets all the games.
