I wanted to believe she was complacent with the okay but in the end, i couldn't lie to myself.
However, based on this and his previous talks, it sounds like Joel knew that this could happen. He knew that by doing this, he was saving ellie but also severing their relationship. Not only did he risk all of mankind but also his own relationship with ellie. Even with her eventually leaving him, I can only assume he is happy that he was able to save his "daughter" for once.
Lastly, Ellie is a kick ass, BAMF. Well done, ND.
