Also, I hate when some "educated pricks" talk this crap about us being exposed to so much violence, that we need the "innocence years" and that we live in sick and violent times. Do they know the first thing about history? We live is such peaceful and pacifistic times that it's probably bad for us. When has it been better? 70 years ago during the II WW? When you had death on every step, dead bodies in the streets, you never knew if you were going to live another day or hour even? My grandparents grew up in such a reality and they are normal people, they are the ones that get scared much easier than kids nowadays accourding to you. And earlier? I WW - ever more brutal. Earlier? There were constant wars, constant fighting, murdering and raping, little children were working whole days, nobody cared about them, often even their parents didn't care about their lives that much. And now some "wise scholar" goes on to tell me that we live in brutal times and that a video game or movie can destroy a person's psyche. Desensitization caused by a game? God, have we become weak pussies. |
What the hell are you babbling about? I never said old horror movies didn't scare you because they were brutal. I stated that kids were desensitized to the fear at such early age, so brutality became the construct used to create shock value since society no longer responded, thus the rise of movies like SAW and Hostel. Long gone are the days of Jason and Freddy Kreuger or before that Psycho and Dracula when movies were at their psychological extreme and never let you see a thing, but rather let your imagination take effect to the harsh outcomes of situation. Of course no movie can prepare you for the sight of a real dying man. You're bolstering my point but instead of understanding the early effects you're jumping to the extreme. I know quite a few military servicemen and have spoken to them on the issue. I never went to that extreme.
I am talking about the desensitization of media, not war and actual murder. Never did I bring about that point. You're just frustrated by the fact that it does exist. The people going on about how kids will go crazy with guns because of videogames, thats nonsense.
