People seem to think it's bizzare when 11 and 12 year olds play high rated games, it's actually quite common and generally fine. When I was around that age I played M rated games and so did everyone I knew.

Yeah but yesterday's M rated games ain't like today's M rated games.  When I was 11.. hell, when I was 9, Mortal Kombat was the big game in the arcades, and when it finally arrived on home consoles I played it at my friend's house constantly.  We had the neutered SNES version though :(  Today the original Mortal Kombat Trilogy is almost comical compared to what's out there now.

I watched several R-rated movies as a kid growing up too like Terminator 2, Nightmare on Elm Street, John Carpenter's The Thing, Total Recall etc... these are all of course known for their action and violence, but not nearly as graphic as even what you see in most PG-13 flicks and prime time TV shows these days.

Botton line is this... letting a pre-teen kid play a GTA game, especially the latest one, is like letting them watch an episode of The Sopranos or Game of Thrones.
