Iwata was cool, then was bad, but starts to do good things again. The Retro thing was confirmed when they said they "choose" to work in DK.
Btw, I have a fear that the Miyamoto IP will be something dissapointing, some downloadable game. In the end, my hopes are for something similar to Banjo-Kazooie adveture type or something new a la Wii Sports/Wii Fit. I'll be happy with either of those two.

We don't know how much time Miyamoto has left at Nintendo. I don't think he would waste his time with a free to play or eshop or small title.
EDIT: Found that quote on GenGame:
If I’m not mistaken, Pikmin was the last time you worked on a truly new adventure type game. Don’t you miss this?
I happen to be working on a completely new game even now. The project is actually getting busier lately. (bigger title with adventure aspects confirmed)?)

They confirmed over the summer, sometime after E3, that Miyamoto and Nintendo were working on a free-to-play title based on the Steel Diver 3DS game. So, it is very much a reality. I assume the new IP he's developing is something that could help Wii U sell better in the west. Hasn't Miyamoto always sort of hinted that he's wanted to make an FPS game? "I could have made Halo".

Stell Diver for Wii U isn't made by Miyamoto.
