RolStoppable said: I don't know about that argument that GTA V would entice other developers to make more Wii U games. A few years ago I believed that the announcement of Dragon Quest X for the Wii was huge, because the expected presence of that game would guarantee a big userbase for JRPGs on the Wii and thus make other third parties want to take advantage of that situation. Never happened, not even remotely. Third parties didn't care one bit, even though at that time Dragon Quest was the biggest third party IP in the Japanese market.
So what kind of support would Nintendo gain by having both CoD and GTA on their home console? It probably wouldn't change anything, regardless of the sales. It's so easy to brush it off by saying: "It's CoD and GTA, they would sell on any system." - In the same way that Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition moving over 1m copies worldwide in 2007 didn't matter and Dragon Quest Swords selling 500k units in Japan alone in 2007 didn't increase the fortunes of the Wii in terms of third party support either.
Based on precedence, the entire argument of "you need to show third parties that there is an audience for their games" is moot. When there's proof that the audience is there, but the games don't come, then what exactly is going to attract the games? |
The thing with DQ10 though is they botched the formula and made it into something nobody wanted.
Same thing with FF14 only they cared enough there to completely redo the game.
Wow@DQ Swords selling so much in Japan. For a spin off it sold almost as much as Yakuza..
I do agree though that the whole "Show 3rd parties there is audience is BS." Remember when Capcom said RE chronicles was a test for REAL RE support? 2 million sales later the only thing they did was another rail shooter.
I think Nintendo would be better off banning most devs from making games. Either that or they cant make a 3DS game if they dont support Wii U. I cant think of a single MP game that wasnt hindered in some way compared to the other platforms. EA has been so bad I stopped supporting them on all platforms for flat out lying about Wii U and what it is capable of to excuse their laziness

That would truly become one of Nintendo's worst decisions.
"I cant think of a single MP game that wasnt hindered in some way compared to the other platforms."
Rayman? NFS: MW?

How so? 3rd parties only hurt themselves by shipping limited products. You know people only buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games.../s mostly but looking what they offered its not hard to see why people pass on them.
Just look at your examples. 2 games in almost a year? Thats not the support EA(I know rayman is Ubisoft) promised Nintendo fans at E3. NFS came out what 6 months late? Rayman was delayed to port to other platforms. Both cases hurt sales. Probably less in the case of Rayman but as for NFS why pay 60.00 when there is one for 20.00 a few shelves over.
I got my copy from the EA store for 30.00 on launch day.
