What I meant to say with that figure (75m) is that that's NOT 75m sold portables - even if they're bundled with the Vita numbers. Vita and Vita TV is really two different things. Vita TV is NOT a portable, so even if it sold 200m on its own that wouldn't be good for handheld gaming. That would be good for... Sony I guess?

Passionate fans, the passionate Sony fans who praise and hype everything that is Sony. This makes it sometimes hard for an outsider (you and me) to make an edjucated judgement wether something really has potential for success in the real world.

(Xperia Play smartphone, PS Move, Sorcery, PS All-Stars just to name a few off the top of my head)

This is such a case. The fans on forums are wild about this announcement, which might lead observers to believe that Vita TV truly has potential for success.

Now my analysis is that this device is dead in the water for a multitude of reasons.

You strip a $199 handheld from its screen and controller and all of a sudden it will be a run away success in the mass market?

Not even mighty Apple is able to sell very many Apple TV's, so why would Sony be able to?

A couple of years from now, when we look in the back mirror (if anyone bothers to) we will say that no wonder it failed when even Sony themselves didn't believe in it. Sony didn't even have the confidence to name it Sony TV but instead experimented and associated it with the Vita brand.
