I'm sure Rol's trademark prediction is just a joke. Rol claims that 2007 would be the Playstation 3's best year throughout it's entire life spand. This conclusion, I assume, is based on the past history of losing systems. In past generations, the losing console would start out decently then lose ground in it's later years. In some cases, like with the GameCube and PS3, the losing console even starts off bad and continues to do so. The GameCube sold 6m units in it's first year; this was even done with a late launch in Others. However, the consoles second year paints a different picture all together. Although the GameCube has a full year in Others during it's second year, the consoles sells dropped off signifigantly. The consoles sold 5m units worldwide, which pales in comparison to it's first year numbers.
There have been times were the PS3 has tracked below the GameCube in both Japan and America. Right now is a good example, as the PS3 is tracking slightly below the Gamecube in Japan, and it's selling around the same in America. Therefore, it can be said that the PS3 is the GameCube of this generation. That would mean the PS3's growth will be limited. This is were Rol gets the idea that '07 will be the PS3's best year. His prediction is valid, but it's flawed as well.
You know how Rol is, though. I'm not sure if it's a joke prediction or if he's acualy serious.
