The closest analogue I can think of is something like the GameBoy player. Of course, that was an accessory, while the Vita TV functions independently of other devices.
And people comparing the Vita TV to the 2DS need to stop. No 3DS games are rendered entirely unplayable on the 2DS, as is the case with Vita games on Vita TV. The 3D could be turned off on the 3DS, while the fact that the Vita is a handheld console could not be "turned off." Being a handheld console is not a feature. It's the definition of the product. The 3DS is a handheld console that has a 3D function, not a 3D console that happens to be portable.
