This shines through 100%, there is no reason to do this... most critics get their review copies of the game for free, if those are the only copies of the game you move because while they game works 100% perfectly but doesn't appeal to anyone then the devs make no money from it.
Review scores are in there with the more powerful machine pissing contest you see around the place, just because something reviews well doesn't mean it'll sell or turn profits, just because something can shift a billion more polygons per second than it's rival doesn't mean people will bother to utilize that fact in games.
but yeah back to the topic - I would actually imagine that DK game reviewing the best, looking at DK country returns on the wii and the fact that it's being worked on by retro studios I don't see how they would churn out a game which doesn't at least breach the 90s
