A few know that each FF character's name is picked to signify their personality in some way. Some are surface level such as Tidus, which means Sun. Or Yuna, which means Moon.

Some go a lot deeper into the individual character's Personality.

Lets take Kefka

Kefka is a poor man's spelling of Kafka. Franz Kafka was a German writer. Kafka is famous for a particluar form of philosophy, skillfully named "Kafkaesque".

Wikipedia says...

Kafka's writing has inspired the term "Kafkaesque", used to describe concepts and situations reminiscent of his work, particularly Der Process and "Die Verwandlung". Examples include instances in which bureaucracies overpower people, often in a surreal, nightmarish milieu which evokes feelings of senselessness, disorientation, and helplessness. Characters in a Kafkaesque setting often lack a clear course of action to escape the situation. Kafkaesque elements often appear in existential works, but the term has transcended the literary realm to apply to real-life occurrences and situations that are incomprehensibly complex, bizarre, or illogical.

Numerous films and television works have been described as Kafkaesque, and the style is particularly prominent in dystopian science fiction. Works in this genre that have been thus described include Terry Gilliam's 1985 film Brazil and the 1998 science fiction film noirDark City. Films from other genres which have been similarly described include The Tenant (1976) and Barton Fink (1991). The television series The Prisoner is also frequently described as Kafkaesque.

Pay very close attention to the bolded, and I am sure you can make the parallels between Kefka as a character as well as FFVI as a whole.

Now lets talk about Sephiroth....

Sephiroth is a play on the term "Sephirot. The Sephirot is of Judeo-Christian origin. It is the 10 emenations in the Kabbalah, or in lamens, the 10 aspects that make God a God but as a living entity(from what I understand of it at least). Their is a hierarchy within them but they are all connected at the core. The Divine Will above intellect is suppose to be at the top. You can read up on this as well at Wikipedia.

If you pay attention to the root meanings of the term, it starts to sound eerily similar to the Jenova-Sephrioth Hive Mind effect that we see throughout FFVII.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find this hidden deeper meaning in the characterizations to be fascinating.
