The original Wii Party may not have been the best game ever, but the stupid amount of fun i've had with the original makes this a day one purchase for me.

This. I just have plenty of friends to play this game with in local-multiplayer so when it was announced, it was an automatic day-one for me. And now, when you add in the $50 pricetag AND a Wii Remote Plus included, it's just a no brainer. Weird, wacky, undeniable fun.

I think thats about it. Stuff like this is the reason I feel like the people who hate on this game are people who most likely do not have gamer friends outside of XBL and PSN. Games like Wii Party U shouldn't be underestimated when ppl do their holiday purchasing decisions.

Note: I just checked sales for the original Wii Party. 8.16 mill? I really had no idea it was that successful.

Exactly. The Nintendo fans who are used to enjoying local multiplayer will eat up a good value like this. Also, the "casual" people who will probably jump on board Wii U this holiday thanks in part to the price drop with the intention of picking up Mario 3D World or Donkey Kong will likely grab this game as well for the extra controller.

Also, I think some people in this thread are confusing Wii Party with Wii Play. Wii Party is like a more varied, creative, less-limited version of Mario Party with just a bunch of party games and ideas stuffed together into one package with a ton of minigames interconnecting everything. It wasn't amazing but it was better than any Mario Party game in the last decade in my opinion. Wii Play and Wii Play: Motion were the "here! get a free controller!" games that offered a dozen or so minigames...most of which were pretty awful. So, personally I'm REALLY glad Nintendo isn't bothering with "Wii Play U" and is instead making Wii Party U its controller bundle game. A solid party game with a controller is a lot more appealing than a throwaway game with a controller.

And yeah, Wii Party did alright for itself. It was pretty much the "fill-in" between Mario Party 8 and Mario Party 9, and was easily superior to them both. I think not being restricted to the "Mario Universe" allowed the designers to be a lot more creative and random...which if you play with the right people, means MORE FUN. It has a decidedly "Japanese" charm to it, which helped it sell well in Japan and surprisingly Europe. NA was the area that it never really caught on as much.
