3DS XL, Vita and Tablets arent very pocketable either and nobody seems to complain about them. Surveys have shown adults who play handheld gaming play at home the vast majority of the time and kids dont need to put it in there pockets, they play it while on car rides or walking thru stores with parents or at home or friends house. The battery life is essentualy the same. And its not larger, it just doesnt fold. I have pretty big hands and cant comfortably reach the touch screen on 3DS or XL without holding it in one hand and using the other exclusively for the touch screen, so nothing really changed. That just leaves the speaker as ur argument why its horrible.


Think of it this way. Nintendo themselves thinks it's a bad sku. If they thought it was on par to the other ones, they would not be selling it for $40/$70 less.


So... the 4 GB XBox 360, the 12GB/250GB PS3, and the Wifi Only Vita are bad skews?  16 GB iPads are bad skus according to apple?  16GB iPhone too?  The PSP 3000 was a bad SKU once the PSP Go came out?  The DS Lite was a bad SKU?  DSi?  If Dell makes one computer for $1000 and another for $400 are they saying the $400 is a bad computer?  When car companies sell different packages for cars, are they saying the less expensive ones are bad? When Burger King sells the Whopper, are they saying that the Whopper JR is a bad burger?

There are different people in the market, and they have different needs.  For a 5 year old who won't use the 3D feature, it doesn't make sense to pay for it.  Some people aren't going to need 500 GB on their PS3, but that doesn't mean the cheaper 250 GB model is a bad SKU.

Please retract your terrible terrible statement if you expect to have any credibility in this argument.  Otherwise, haters gonna hate.

As for the content of your post, yes to all of your questions, IF YOU IGNORE PRICE. Why does a person buy the 4GB 360? Because it's cheaper. Why does a person buy the 12GB PS3? Because it's cheaper. Why did those ten people buy the WiFi only Vita? Because it's cheaper. Etc, etc, etc, etc. There are of course a few exceptions like the whopper jr having less calories but you get the point.

 

I've never said (or at least don't believe I've said) that people shouldn't buy the 2DS. For $130 it's an ok value. The closest I got to saying it wasn't good was my comment about the Wii U basic not being the most popular sku. I've never disagreed with the person saying "yeah it's worse but who cares, $130!"

I have however been arguing against the belief that the 2DS isn't a worse device than the 3DS and 3DS XL. When I made my comment about Nintendo pricing, I was responding to a guy defending its shortcomings. I said all the reasons why it is a bad sku compared to the others and instead of him saying the price counter acts those negatives, he tried to act like the negatives aren't real. Hence I made my comment about Nintendo themselves knowing the negatives are real. If Nintendo thought the 2DS was just as good a product as the 3DS, it wouldn't be $40 cheaper.

It isn't a matter of good vs bad.  Nintendo realizes that a lot of people aren't going to use the 3D feature.  If a Whopper is $1 and a Whopper with cheese is $1.50, what is the better SKU for someone who is lactose intolerant?  Clearly the Whopper without cheese.  To someone who is trying to watch their weight, a Whopper JR will be better than a Whopper.  To someone who is replacing an XBox and already has a 250 GB harddrive at home, the 4GB XBox 360 is a better buy than the 250GB.  For someone who lives in an area with no 3G service, the Wifi Vita is better than a 3G one.  If you're a 6 year old kid prone to dropping stuff whose parents won't let play in 3D, the 2DS is clearly a better SKU.

You can't say something is a bad SKU "if you ignore the price".  The price IS one of the features of the 2DS.  Bad SKU means to me, and to most other people, a SKU that is not worth the money.  The 2DS definitely is and it will appeal to a substantial amount of people.
