I was just saying that old model of "platformer mascot" has largely faded away as Sega left hardware and Microsoft's attempts (Blinx?) that I remember failed. Nintendo still carries it with Mario being as big as ever with massive selling main line titles. Sony just doesn't seem to stick with a single entity as its defining character. Sadly for Crash he stopped being relevant to 90% of gamers a decade ago. |
While I agree that the "mascot platformer" has declined in popularity outside of Nintendo, I still think Crash Bandicoot 1 and 3 are some of the finest non-Nintendo platformers ever made, and better than any of the Ratchet and Clank or LittleBigPlanet games.
A PS4 Crash Bandicoot made by Naughty Dog would sell the system for me.
