Some of the bigger 3DS games gave me the impression of being homeconsoles experiences. Like Ocarina of Time 3D or Starfox 64 3D, but I can't tell what exactly.

Thats my point. The more powerful the mobile devices get, the more similar the experiences to home console games will be, especially with the top rated games and the top sellers. That regards all major mobile platforms: Nintendo handhelds, Sony handhelds, iOS, Android. And with the better powermanagment of the 3DS and Vita, save points every few minutes are not as relevant as in the past.

The most innovative concepts of mobile games across platforms (and 8-bit-games in the past) were born due to the limitations of the hardware. With less and less hardware limits, innovations will mostly come from indie developer with their budget limits.

Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and the big third-party-publishers will have their focus on the mainstream: strong IPs and proven concepts with few risks. But they seem to understand, that they have to make nice with indie developers in the future, which bring fresh concepts to their platforms.
