Is this a trend going forward? Nintendo releases WWHD and NSLU digitally earlier than the physical versions.

Good point.  Maybe they should wait a year or two and then really push digital.  Retailers probably already feel pretty burned after having all their stock devalued by 50 bucks, especially considering they often don't make any money on consoles.
