It's designed for the under 7s group so it was likely designed to be stupidity proof rather than visually appealing (i remember playing on that car sized block the original DS was and not giving a shit, so it's sound logic).
OT: In all honesty, if i had a little brother or sister around 5, i could really see myself contemplating purchasing this. It's a very affordable price and it doesn't like something they could break in under an hour.
