Nintendo doesn't try to rape you on hard drive prices in their SKUs.  They went with SD format for 3DS and SD cards are dirt cheap now.  External hard drives are dropping all the time.  At least they weren't like Microsoft with the 360 hard drives or like Sony with Vita memory cards.  You have to buy from them and they are overpriced.

You can keep dreaming about a 250/500 GB sku considering 250 GB SSD on Amazon are around 180 or so and 500 GB SSD are around 350 (Wii U uses SSD for their internal storage).  Sure they could get them cheaper buying them in bulk but the cheapest most affordable option is to go out and buy an external hard drive to attach to the Wii U.

As I understand, I need a HD with its own power source, these cost a fortune in Brazil, like 300 dollars...

The issue is that the USB ports are version 2.0  You can use an external hard drive without external power (USB 3.0 typically) but you will need what is called a Y cable to pull extra power from another USB port.  I have been doing this very thing since launch, no problems yet...

Just make sure you get the right kind of cable, you want a Y CABLE not Y ADAPTER, some places mislabel them.  You want the cable with 2 male ends and 1 female end, like the one listed above.  They are pretty cheap.
