When exactly do you think Pokemon came out?  Because DS sales certainly did not triple, even less so if we're talking about the average before and after Pokemon.

It came out in April 2007.  Look at the graph.  Set it for 2005 - present.  Look at the thickness of the graph in 2006, then look at it in 2007.  The graph ranges from 2X - 3X the thickness post Pokemon.  Even the Christmans period sales are double the previous year.  This continues until 2011.  I would call 4 years a sustained boost.

Nintendo handheld sales skyrocket post-Pokemon.  I can't believe anyone is actually debating this.
