This is all 3rd parties propaganda, all hail Nintendo! :P
Seriously though the article has a lot of inaccuracies, for starters the "key-chip, commonly known as 10NES, never was present on Famicom and therefore this is one far-fetched problem less for Japan and most of Asia, which were significantly bigger back in the days. All in all article is just trying to substitute the complexity of the game console industry and how it was shaped with simple message "Nintendo are jerks" (whom they could or could not be from time to time), ironically blaming certain practicies created by Nintendo that are happened to become industry standards, or blaming some actually questionable descisions but for absolutely different reasons.
