The dictation of terms in the NES era was one of the major factors in saving the industry from the mistakes made by the very same developers who complained about it at the time.

Anything that paints Nintendo's actions then in a negative light is fundamentally misunderstanding the situation and the positive repercussions those actions caused.

If anyone in the industry is still holding a grudge over that, it merely proves that a crash could quite easily happen again as those people obviously didn't learn anything.

As for Nintendo fans and how third parties are viewed... Imagine going out to a restaurant with a few people with one person offering to pay as long as they can order for everybody. The person buying proceeds to order the finest food and wine on the menu for everyone but one person. That one person is left with an undressed side salad and a tepid glass of water. Everyone else leaves satisfied, but can't understand why the person with the salad didn't have a good time like everyone else did, because the evening was really great.

That's Nintendo fans and third parties in a nutshell, and why non-Nintendo fans just won't get it.
