Of course are different. These games sell 50k, and almost never sell 100k (a few exceptions already mentioned).
Mainstream jRPG are Tales of and Kingdom Hearts nowadays. In the past, the market was flooded. Examples are Star Ocean, Brave of Fire, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Valkyria Chronicles, White Knight Chronicles, Vagrant Story, Blue Dragon, The Last Remnant...
All these games sell in a different market, it's not the otaku crowd, and of course sell more (at least +200k)
A lot of this IP are dead now being DQ, FF and a few strong others the only survivors. And now it seems the only jRPG are the otaku/niche.
