Why is dedicating a Gamescom conference to new IPs and indies a bad thing?

gamescom isn't a big conference. ms doesn't show up. nintendo doesn't show up. sony shows up but it's never been "another E3".

so why did everyone forget that this year? ..because they wanted to.
