I dont really understand what is being talked about, but i know one thing, in 99% of cases a hardware based solution is always better than a software implemented solution.
As for AMD and why they didn't tell MS about this, perhaps they did. At the end of the day AMD provide the barebones system and Sony/MS decide how they want to develop it. They may have said, we recommend these options.. Sony/MS will tell AMD what they want.
For the moment we have no idea how this will play out, perhaps it will look graphically the same and it will only affect FPS or nothing at all visible, we just dont know. Just have to wait and see.
