If true this makes perfect sense to me regarding WiiU.
I expected something similar this year with a bundled game but no official retail price drop. This way they're almost certain to post a profit come March (the end of fiscal 2013), and I don't think it's a coincidence that Mario Kart is rumored to be releasing the month after that to probably coincide with an official price drop - quite possibly in the $80 range ala 3DS.
