United States or Japan: Who's animation is better?

Japan, currently. Despite the stigma that "Moe Blob" is infesting everything (and that trend is starting to reverse, though it's death will be slower than its rise and will never go away entirely anyway), animation is broader of purpose, suiting more genres and more moods.

Western Animation has a few bright spots: Adventure Time, The Legend of Korra, Regular Show, American Dad (i would say, anyway. It has not suffered the decay of either Family Guy or The Simpsons, not yet), My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Venture Bros. Precious little else, however.
