I believe Dead Island is owned by Deep Silver and made by Techland. So techland decided (rightly) this is very risky, being a developer without your own IP is what can close a studio. I think (this is me guessing), is that there were some doubts whether DeepSilver were going to allow Techland to make Dead Island 2, and I think they have sensibly decided, lets make our own before we find that Deep Silver outsources/moves the game to another developer. They already have their own engine for open world, just improve it, make the world/story less cheesy and they will have a hit on their hands. I would not be surprised if Dead Island 3 becomes less cheesy and more serious. Well that's what i believe is the case :) |
Oh yeah, that must be it! They want to be in control of an IP. Good thinking.
