That's understandable, it's still trying to be a kid's show.  So a lot of times it's just trying to be cute.  Though I think the premise behind it is surprisingly deep.  Like there is an actual lore behind the show.

Eh.. I'm not trying to be rude to anyone who actually does enjoy the show, but do adults actually enjoy the show for what it is, or is it a more ironic thing like My Little Pony?

I'm not sure.  I've never watched My Little Pony, but I understand what you mean, but I'm not sure how far MLP takes it compared to other shows.  I'm not sure what the style is, is it  a bunch of jokes or is there actually something there?

My Little Pony has a very hipster fanbase.  It's a decent enough kids show.  Probably above average, but to a large degree the fanbase enjoys it in the same way that people enjoy memes.

Personally I was okay with it before, but I started reading about it and realized that there was way more to the show than I expected.  I thought at first it might have been kind of like SpongeBob, just being quirky and funny.  Few characters have any real backstory.  I started reading about it, and suddenly I found that the show was a lot more than that.  It actually had backstories, it has mysteries that I want answered.  I'm now really paying attention to what the show has to offer.

It's definitely an odd show and in no way is it for everyone, but you might be surprised once you actually dig into it.

Spongebob wasn't just about quirkiness though.  Spongebob  had a really old school abbot and costelloish comedy vibe, at least earlier on.  Some of the early episodes were sheer comic brilliance.  Really well thought out jokes and not just weirdness.
