Ya know, its like Disney and Ghibli: both have extreme talent and followers. However!, besides Avatar: The Last Airbender, Japan has us beat by interesting "cartoon" standards... but then there is Spongebob too but even that is loosing charm with every episode. I favor JP cartoons though. Can't go wrong with Dragonball Z, Pokemon, Yugioh, Sailor Moon, Kiba, Inuyasha, Rave Master, Bleach, Naruto, just to name a few. But I can see valid reasonings for either side.
