Well then it seems like the ps4 might as well be the true all in one box then. From the looks of this if Sony can pull it off they can let u cut the cord and leave the ps4 to be the only box u need without the hassle of dedicated cable box unlike m$' solution. And if nbc or other local channels don't want to cooperate Sony can just team with aereo on those channels :D Sony also has saying power since they produce major popular shows like breaking bad, community, wheel of fortune etc... While Sony thought into the future m$' is stuck in the past with cable boxes lol.

If you think MS isn't planning something like this already, you're bonkers. Especially since the 360 itself already supported being a set top box for SKY as well as supported on demand options from Comcast and Verizon.

Seems like you didn't think this one through very well... MS's solution provides more flexibility in that cable companies don't have to develop their own special apps or agree to full content rights/support. MS can either do the HDMI-IN with the new Xbox One guide, or offer a full app or their own IPTV service like they've been working on for ages already.

You're welcome :)

im guessing sony will have a better supported web brouser with the obvious flash/java support that sky's online customers have acces to via PC's, that in turn eliminates the sky tv argument but also an enhanced web brouser would pave the way for online TV broadcasters like TVcatchup to work on the ps4 giving even greater flexability, i think one point you missed was the instalation fee's and subscription fees, sony could have negotiated to get a really good deal.

I believe that this is just a deal that will be giving to anyone thats willing to partner up.  Here is the reason why.  There are many different boxes out there that can server up content.  For a media company like Viacon its dumb to only serve up your content on one platform when you are trying to serve it up to as many platforms as possible to make more money.  There is nothing about this statement that says exclusive which means its open to anyone one.  With Apple and Google going after the same space including MS, you will be seeing deals like this all over the place as these media companies try to seperate themselves from cable alone.

The difference between MS approach is that they are tyring to provide content from all angles.  Wether its your internet App, Cable FIOS like Comcast, Xfinity, Verison At@T or hook up your cable box to the X1 even creating their own content.  MS is looking for an all around solution where the X1 rules them all.  They are looking for tighter integration between the X1 and the console capablities.

As I stated before, we will be seeing a lot of these deals and content owners will be looking to cash in on all these devices or companies looking for content.
