This game wasn't made to fill the game drought, because when it was greenlit, a game drought wasn't even expected. The Wind Waker was a posterchild for GameCube-Gameboy Advance connectivity. A GBA that was connected to the GC would display a map and offered a few other insignificant features. The Wii U is the evolution of GC-GBA connectivity, so The Wind Waker is an obvious choice for a re-release, because it shows off all the "greatness" of the connectivitiy idea and thus will prove how awesome the Gamepad is. On topic: What speaks for the game is that there won't be any backlash (thus no anti-hype), because the artstyle isn't anything new for Zelda anymore. What speaks against the game is that those who gave it a chance back then have obviously already played it and most likely won't buy it again. It will definitely sell a million copies, but that's about it. |
Excellent point re: GBA connectivity. What's tragic is other GC/GBA titles - PacMac Vs, FF:CC and LoZ:Four Swords (which would have been a cool bonus with WW) would all have people complaining that they can only use one (or two) gamepads.
Otherwise I concur.
