With an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription and an Xbox One, if I have 5 people in my family, everyone has the same Gold subscription access. MS just split up the accounts. Don't worry, they're throwing you a bone with three free months of Xbox Live for the inconvenience, but everyone else after the period is up is going to have to pay their own way effective on the 27th.

That's all well and good, but that's related to the Xbox LIVE Family Plan, which is an Xbox 360 feature.
On the Xbox One, if I subscribe to an Xbox LIVE Gold membership with one Xbox Live Gold membership, anyone in my household or any of my friends can use my Xbox One with their account, and have full access to Xbox LIVE Gold features (including my game purchases) with their account. I don't have to be home. I don't have to be present. Assuming they don't have an Xbox LIVE Gold account.
Likewise, if I go to my nephews dorm, log in with my account at his Xbox One. Once again, he can use all of the features available on Gold and access all of my games and game content.
